Hi! I'm glad you stopped by my Website.  This site is primarily designed to be used by students taking my college courses in American Government, American History, European History, Intro to Legal Systems, and various other related subjects.

This page will help you discover a wealth of information about government, politics, and history. (even if you are a newcomer to surfing the Internet) There are many ways to connect to the net. You may be using a school computer or one of your own. In either case you will need a piece of software called a browser. Chances are, you will have access to Netscape, America Online, Microsoft Explorer, and at least a dozen other options. Often Browsers differ slightly from one to another, so do not be alarmed if the output from your browser looks a little different on your computer screen than what other students might see on theirs.

If you don't have a lot of experience with the World Wide Web, and you want to save text from a Web site, it would probably be best if you save the entire document at first. You can always edit it later with your word processor (with copy and paste). Your browser includes a feature called bookmark, favorite places, favorites, hot list, or something like this that will allow you to keep a permanent list of the sites that you have visited and want to visit again. Of course this feature may not be available to you if you are using a school computer. In most cases, a bookmark left on a school would be erased from the hard drive when the student leaves that computer. You can still have the convenience of book marked web sites but you will have to save (export) your favorite web sites to a diskette. When you go to another computer you can re-introduce your bookmarks by reading (importing) them back from your diskette.

Web searches may take longer than you expected if a server is busy or under-powered or your modem is slow, so patience will be required at times. You may see a line at the bottom of the screen that says something like: "Transferring file: 50% of 20K completed." This means that the computer is working as fast as it can and that one-half of the file has been transferred. If the file contains only a few lines of text the transfer may take only a few seconds, but if the file contains pictures and graphics or is very long, a wait of anywhere from 30 seconds to several minutes could be required.

If your computer hangs up during the transfer, or you get some kind of message indicating that all the phone lines into the site are busy, you may try the reload button of come back a little later.

About my courses:
The course content is the same no matter if you take my course in a classroom, on a computer,  in front of your TV, or by arrangement, but the delivery systems are very different. From this Website you can retrieve a syllabus, class schedule, class notes, study guides, and several other learning tools for any course that I teach. My courses are listed along the left side of the page in a menu bar.
