THE AGING FIREFIGHTER CASE STUDY - PART ONE
Submit as a "New Post" to THE AGING FIREFIGHTER CASE STUDY FORUM

The city of Tampa has an ordinance that requires firefighters to retire at the age of 55.

One day, you get a letter from a firefighter who is about to turn 55 years old. He writes a very poignant letter, describing how his family relies on his income for their financial survival. He also includes several pictures of himself, which suggest that he is a very physically fit man. He argues that the city should not set an arbitrary retirement age but, instead, should judge each case on an individual basis.

What will you do?

Abide by the policy and force him to retire

Change the policy to eliminate the mandatory retirement age
