Brief: Party Name v. Party Name

Case briefs should faithfully adhere to this format.  In fact, probably it is most sensible simply to type the brief in from this document.  Keep the margins and font size exactly as they are.  Because the guideline is for 300-600 words, it will almost certainly be the case that your brief will spill over to a second or even third page.  Make no formatting changes, and your document will be properly formatted.

Be certain, in your brief, to treat the areas identified in the syllabus in turn.  Dedicate the first paragraph to the facts of the case.  The second paragraph should be dedicated to the core constitutional issues.  The third paragraph should address the court’s decision in the dispute between the parties.  The fourth paragraph summarizes the majority opinion.  The fifth and sixths paragraphs should summarize concurring and dissenting opinions, if there are any.

Be certain to keep to the length requirement—no less than 300 words, no more than 600 words.  That requirement, and this formatting requirement, are a part of your grade, together with your oral presentation.
