 STUDENT INTERNSHIP AGREEMENT

The purpose of the RSU internship program is to provide a productive and beneficial experience for both the RSU student and the institution that agrees to accommodate the internship student.  Internships typically serve three broad purposes. First, internships contribute to closer ties between the university and the surrounding community; in this sense, internships allow the university to find work environments that allow students to learn and demonstrate skill sets appropriate to their fields, which ideally would expand the quantity and quality of products and services available to the community in exchange for students’ experience in fields related to their degrees. Second, internships allow the degree program to incorporate “real-world” elements into the curriculum, enhancing the value of some academic degrees. For example, a graphic arts major serving an internship in a local print shop enables the student to observe the business aspect of their prospective trade.  And third, internships expose the student to experiences that cannot be approximated in the classroom. Students seeking a degree in social sciences with an eye toward working in the field of drug intervention can serve an internship in a local drug treatment center, and potentially gain invaluable experience in learning how the counseling techniques learned in the classroom actually work on patients.

To qualify for Internship program, a student must be at least a half-time student in good standing and the internship assignment must be approved as appropriate for the course of study or training he/she is pursuing. A student in good standing is defined as “an individual who continues to be enrolled and maintains an academic record which is satisfactory according to the standards of Rogers State University. The student will earn (3) three credit hours of credit for the work assignment."

At the conclusion of the (60) sixty hours of internship experience, the site supervisor will be asked to provide fill out an online survey and evaluation of the RSU student’s activities and this document will become part of the internship semester grade. Additionally, the internship student will be graded on the following activities:
*Ability to perform in a professional manner as indicated by ability to arrive on time, and meet  deadlines
*Ability to take initiative in learning
*Ability to interact with supervisors and colleagues
*Ability to develop a work plan and develop skills identified by that work plan. The work plan will be dynamic and may be changed as necessary by the student and site supervisor to provide the best learning experience possible as accommodated by the internship site
*Ability to provide weekly journal records of all activities as related to the learning experience at the internship site
*Presentation of a written and oral summary of the internship learning experience

The internship student will make all travel arrangements necessary to the internship site and be responsible for all of their personal travel and living expenses.

The internship student will maintain regular attendance at RSU and will maintain a satisfactory work record at the approved internship site. The hours of work will be coordinated with the site supervisor to provide the best combination of learning experience and convenience for the internship site. The internship student will immediately make known to the site supervisor any illness or circumstance that might prevent the internship student from reporting to the internship site on scheduled dates and times as agreed.

The internship student will fulfill all duties and responsibilities assigned by the site supervisor in a professional and ethical manner. This includes maintaining codes of conduct and dress at all times as appropriate for the internship site.

The internship student will comply with all of policies, rules, instructions, procedures, directions,  and regulations of the internship site, including protection of all proprietary information and data; including but not limited to personnel information, institutional information, and any information deemed by the site supervisor as sensitive or private. All material, information, and data related to the internship site will be kept confidential.

The internship student will refrain from any conduct that would adversely reflect on the internship site. (language, alcohol, or drugs)

If requested, the internship student will make available any and all material prepared at the internship site and provide a copy to the site supervisor if so requested.

The internship student will observe all rules of safety of the internship site in the performance of their duties.

This internship arrangement may be terminated at any time by the Internship Director or the Internship Site. RSU greatly appreciates all of our intern partners in allowing students to participate in this great learning experience outside of the purely academic environment. It is our greatest desire that the shared experience benefits all parties. Thank you for being part of the great RSU tradition of presenting students with practical experience as well as classroom knowledge.
