  • INSTRUCTIONS FOR AMERICAN HISTORY SINCE 1877 DISCUSSION FORUM
The timing of your primary posting (Assigned in class) is critical to launch the class discussion of a subject. Your primary posting should be a minimum of two pages. (Three is better) Your primary post should combine reading, research, and reflection on the discussion question. Respond by clicking on the "POST REPLY" button and typing or copying and pasting your response in the text box. ----- If you are only posting secondary responses, post two or three replys (only a paragraph) to the students who have posted their primary response and/or to other student replys.----- There is an advantage for those that post early because they don't have to work as hard to come up with new stuff to talk about, or new sources to support arguments that have been already made. You may want to review several of the postings of others to get some insight as to viewpoints on which you may contribute or offer opposing points of view. All material that others have posted to the case is fair game, as long as all opposing arguments or supporting responses are presented in the spirit of a friendly learning experience.----- The demands, of critical and reflective thought, in this kind of writing may be a departure from the research and writing style that you usually do, but it makes for a fantastic learning exercise. As you read the discussion question, and the material in the text, ask yourself at every step if you agree with the conclusions and opinions expressed in the context of your own learning experiences and value systems. Remember to give this activity your best effort, since it replaces a midterm and final paper that usually is part of this class.
